The Sergio Spyder another Low-Volume Sports Car by Ferrari

Unveiled earlier this year at the Geneva Auto Show, the Ferrari Sergio has now entered its limited production run of six vehicles. The first of those six Ferrari Sergios has been delivered today to SBH Royal Auto Gallery in the United Arab Emirates, at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit, home to the Ferrari World theme park.
Based on the Ferrari 458 Italia, designed by Pininfarina and named in honor of Sergio Pininfarina, the Sergio celebrates Pininfarina’s six decades of collaboration with Ferrari. Powered by the latest 605 HP version of Ferrari’s naturally aspirated 4497cc V8, Sergio will run from 0-60 in three seconds, give or take a few thousandths of a second. Sergio is a true open car, with Ferrari’s signature flying buttress rear roofline, and “sugar scoop” rear glass, a design that first appeared on Pininfarina’s 1965 Dino Berlinetta Speciale show car.

The design migrated into production and has been a defining trait of mid-engine Ferraris from the 206 and 246 Dinos to the “Magnum” 308s. Each of the six Ferrari Sergio clients had a dedicated session at the Tailor Made atelier in Maranello, carrying into the 21st Century the Ferrari tradition of tailoring cars to a client’s wishes.

The first Sergio featured here wears Ferrari red accented by forged wheels finished in gold with a diamond finish, reminiscent of the wheels worn by late 1960s and early 1970s Ferrari sports racing cars. With a wave of exciting new products—F60 America, FXX K, 458 Speciale A, and now Sergio—there’s a profound energy in Maranello these days.

As the Ferrari stock offering moves closer, we hope to see more exciting offerings. Ferrari museum director Antonio Ghini interviewed the great coachbuilder in Turin in 2006 about his close relationship with Enzo Ferrari. The result was an extraordinary document about the evolution in the Italian automotive sector.
