LG AKA Smartphone Launched Outside Korea

As you might remember the LG AKA Android smartphone that launched in South Korea last year, the device comes with a handset and a case that display a number of animated eyes on the top of the display and the handset is aimed at younger smartphone users.

LG has now announced that they will be launching the LG AKA in Taiwan, the device will launch in Taiwan later this month. As a reminder the LG AKA comes with a 5 inch inch display that has a HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. Processing on the device comes in the form of a 1.2GHz quad core processor and it also features 1.5GB of RAM.
The LG AKA comes with 16GB of built-in storage and there is a micro SD card slot for extra storage, there are also front and rear facing cameras. On the front of the handset is a 2.1 megapixel camera for video calls and on the back there is an 8 megapixel camera.

The handset also features a 2610 mAh battery and a range of connectivity options with include 4G LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth and NFC, the device comes with Android 4.4 KitKat and is available with a range of different colored case options.

It was previously thought that the LG AKA would only be available in South Korea, although as LG are now launching it in Taiwan it may also be headed to other countries in the future. LG's AKA smartphone, targeted at young consumers, has finally been launched outside of South Korea.

Initially unveiled for the South Korean market back in November, the smartphone comes with Mood cases, According to Focus Taiwan, the LG AKA smartphone will be available to buy in Taiwan starting March 23 and has been priced at NTD 9,900 (approximately $197).

So far, LG has not revealed plans for launching the AKA smartphones to other markets. There port claims that LG expects to sell around 2,000 to 3,000 units per month while it speculates total units to be shipped this year will be around 20,000. The LG AKA handset comes with an option to use four different cover cases, namely Eggy (Yellow), Wookie (White), Soul (Blue) and YoYo (Pink).

The cover cases partially hide the display of the smartphone, letting it show animated eyes on the visible portion of the screen, providing notification details and battery status information to the user.

All four cases feature different-styled eyes, and are meant to portray different moods.
The handset houses a 5-inch IPS display with HD (720x1280 pixels) resolution and is powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz processor (unspecified) with 1.5GB of RAM. The Android4.4 KitKat-based LG AKA also features an 8-megapixel rear and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera.

The smartphone sports 16GB of inbuilt storage, along with microSD card expandability. LG AKA's connectivity options include 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, NFC, GPS, AGPS, and USB 2.0. Measuring 138.7x71.9x9.9mm, the handset weighs 135.5 grams (without the cover case) and is backed by a 2610mAh battery.
