The galaxy is the one that has the more versatile camera system with two zoom lenses at three times zoom and 10 times zoom which gives you incredibly clear photos and videos that you just cannot get on the iPhone and it also has a 120hz fast refresh rate screen for super-smooth scrolling that I really love and that you don't quite get on the iPhone the galaxy also runs on android which is the more open ecosystem that allows you to customize your phone any way you like and you have a fingerprint scanner instead of face recognition which comes in handy for those mask-wearing times that we live in.

I also personally love that the galaxy charges a bit faster in just about an hour while the iPhone takes nearly 2 hours for a full charge, by the way, there is no charger in the box with these two that's the latest trend and you have to spend 20 or 30 dollars separately to get one the iPhone while lacking a bit in the cool features department and the camera zoom tricks run the very dependable and familiar ios and has the faster processor that beats the galaxy in benchmarks.

It is more future proof the ios the software also feels a bit more refined and prettier apple's emoji, for example, look a lot better if you're texting you also have iMessage and apple will deliver software updates for about five years while the galaxy only gets three years of software updates and they will also arrive with a bigger delay on the galaxy of course,.

You also need an iPhone if you want to use the popular apple watch and the iPhone fits in nicely in the apple ecosystem with features like airdrop for fast wireless sharing airplay for smart speakers and then gadgets like AirPods and air tags and so many other cool accessories you get their full benefits with the iPhone by the way, this is a good time to say that if like me you find the flat sides on the iPhone 12 pro max a bit off-putting and the design a bit too uncomfortable the iPhone 11 pro max is still available at all carriers and it actually costs less the only major thing that it's missing is 5g connectivity but 5g is still not much faster than the currently and the camera quality on the 11 pro max is not much different so you're not missing out on much.

The 11 pro max model has actually a bigger battery then the newer one and speaking of options you also have the newest oneplus 9 pro which is another android phone to consider except for the galaxy oneplus has put the hasselblad camera maker name on its camera system but we found that the camera is still a tiny bit behind galaxy phones and  iphones.

However, the one plus 9 pro actually felt zippier than the galaxy it has doubled the storage at a slightly lower price and it has some superpowers like a charger in the box and the full charge in half an hour which is just insane and a really good extra at 1070 dollars it's a good alternative especially if you don't like Samsung's interface or if you just want a  different phone with a super clean interface by the way.

I personally find the price on the 9 pro bit too high but instead I would recommend you check out the one plus 8 pro last year's model which still has 120 hertz screen still has an excellent camera and only offers slightly less insane but still super-fast charging speeds and all of that at the much more reasonable price of seven hundred dollars okay.

I personally love these phones I have to say that I find them a bit too big and bulky and actually uncomfortable for me personally so I don't actually use any of them as my daily driver so if you're like me and want a smaller  phone here are your best options for 2021 first we have the iPhone 12 and then the galaxy s21 yes folks not much variety in terms of brands but that's just because Apple and Samsung have really made some 6 great devices at great prices so it's hard to recommend much else the same as before applies here get the iPhone 12 the smaller model if you value the industry-leading speeds of apple processors this phone is really fast plus get it for the five years of software updates the great camera and video quality and of course for the ios ecosystem with the apple watch and all the rest now the galaxy s21 is pleasingly compact.

In my opinion, it's the best-looking phone with that beautiful violet and gold dual-tone style it's made of plastic which I personally don't mind as it still feels very solidly put together and its advantage over the iPhone is again that it actually has a zoom camera and it captures much cleaner photos and videos while zooming plus it's an android phone with all the customization benefits both of these will run you around 800 dollars actually the galaxy can be found at around 700 currently so it's also a bit cheaper so what about the rest of the phones if you want a super compact phone.

Apple has made the iPhone 12 mini  which is not super popular but it's your only option for a powerful phone at a much tinier scale but be warned that its battery life is definitely on the short side and it won't last you a full day with heavier use I also think that the google pixel 5 is not quite worth getting this year unless you really really want that clean google look and want a compact phone the google pixel 5 is just a bit too slow  compared to the current competition a bit too expensive for what it is plus it's definitely got the most boring design of the bunch also let's talk which are the best phones to buy if you're on a budget you have two standout options here the new samsung galaxy a52 5g model and then the google pixel 4a 5g and among these two the galaxy is the newer and way more powerful but also a bit more expensive option still it would be my personal favorite it's got 120-hertz fast refresh rate screen it's got a massive two day battery life which is a huge advantage and arguably better looks.

Now you can get the pixel if you want to save up even more and while the galaxy has got a very good camera system there is something about that hdr magic on the pixel that just makes its photos look a bit better especially so in low light and that camera is a bit more dependable finally you have quote-unquote other phones the gamers on our team would kill me if i don't mention the rog phone 5 which is optimized for gaming from the looks to the dedicated gaming controls and shoulder buttons and specialized accessories it's a gaming powerhouse.

It's a super-powerful phone with 16 gigabytes of ram the latest snapdragon triple a chip well thought out cooling and the massive 6 milliamp-hour battery that keeps the lights on for far longer than mainstream phones you don't quite get the best camera system here and the phone is on the bigger and bulkier side but if you're a gamer you probably don't care much about that now there is also a bunch of other phones that i have left out.

For example, the moto g power is probably your best option with incredible three-day battery life if you're on a super low budget we're talking less than 250 dollars and then there are other phone brands like Xiaomi that is making some excellent phones at different price ranges but they're not available in the US.

Best overall: Huawei P30 Pro

The best phone currently available is the brand new Huawei P30 Pro – a brilliant combination of performance, battery life, design and a game-changing camera. 

 Advertisement The massive 6.47in FHD+ OLED is one of the best, with a small notch in the top containing the selfie camera and slim bezels all round. The curved edges keep the width of the phone to a narrow 73.4mm, meaning it’s still relatively manageable and easier to wield day to day than most of the big-screen competition, so hopefully you’re less likely to drop it. One of the fastest optical in-screen fingerprint scanners is embedded directly under the screen in an easy-to-reach position takes care of unlocking the device. 

There’s also 2D face unlock, but it’s not terribly secure. The star of the show is on the back. Huawei’s new Leica quad camera system is the most capable on any phone with incredible low-light performance that instantly turns night into day without having to wait for a couple of seconds of capture. The 20MP 0.6x ultra-wide angle camera is fun, the main 1x 40MP camera is terrific and it’s joined by a new periscopic 5x optical zoom camera that gets you closer than any other smartphone. If five times magnification wasn’t enough, there’s an excellent 10x hybrid zoom on top and then a digital zoom all the way up to 50x. 

A 3D depth-sensing time-of-flight sensor rounds out the modules on the back. The rest of the phone is similar to the also excellent Mate 20 Pro: Huawei’s top-notch Kirin 980 processor, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, a battery that’ll last about two days and charges super fast, plus wireless charging and power sharing. Huawei’s modified Android 9 Pie, EMUI 9.1, is highly customisable and has plenty of features but may not be to everyone’s taste. It may also not receive Android updates as fast as some others, although Huawei is improving in this regard.

Best iOS: Apple iPhone XS

The best iPhone is not the biggest or most expensive. The iPhone XS combines a stunning, good-size 5.8in screen, svelte body and top-notch performance into the most appealing package from Apple to date. 

Apple’s Face ID is the best face recognition system in the business, the dual-camera system on the back is excellent, as is the performance of the A12 Bionic processor and the class-leading gesture navigation system of iOS, which has replaced the home button of iPhones of yore. You’re also in line for about five years of software updates, which is likely at least two more than any other brand of phone. 

The iPhone XS is a metal and glass sandwich, and will smash just like the competition when dropped, but the stainless steel sides and glass back exude a luxury feel not matched by other phones. Sadly most will put it in a case. The biggest downsides are the price, which at £1,000 is likely significantly more than the competition, and battery life, which only manages about a day of medium usage. 
The iPhone XS has wireless charging and supports fast charging via a USB-C to Lightning cable, but only ships with a slow charger in the box. Its cellular modem performance is also not as good as competitors, struggling more to keep a working 4G data connection in congested areas, particularly compared with the Mate 20 Pro

Best Android: Google Pixel 3

On the outside the Pixel 3 is quite attractive, but looks dated with a fairly large forehead and chin containing the front-facing speakers making it decidedly not “all-screen”. The back is all glass, but four fifths of it is frosted, hiding fingerprints and scratches more easily than its polished competitors. It looks best in white and feels really nice in the hand. 

 It’s also one of the smallest and lightest phones that’s still of flagship performance and quality, with a great-looking 5.5in FHD+ OLED screen. But what you buy the Pixel 3 for is the software experience, which is hands-down the best on any Android smartphone. You get Google features first on the Pixel 3, such as Gmail’s Smart Compose feature, and the software is just smoother and more polished than any other Android, from operation to animation. 

The Pixel smartphones also receive both security and features updates before any other Android phones, guaranteed until at least October 2021. The camera is also fantastic despite being a single camera on the back, offering zoom and portrait mode matching rival dual or triple-camera systems. Google’s Night Sight is class-leading too, producing some amazing photos in very low light conditions, rivalled only by Night Mode on the Mate 20 Pro. 

 Advertisement Performance all round is excellent, but battery life is only just about a day of medium usage, which is about the only downside. The Pixel 3 has fast wireless charging and relatively fast cable charging.
